Who we are
Welthungerhilfe is one of the largest private aid organisations in Germany, with no political or religious affiliation. It was founded in 1962 under the umbrella of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). At that time, it was the German section of the ‘Freedom from Hunger Campaign’, one of the first global initiatives for the fight against hunger.
What we do
We fight to eradicate hunger and poverty. Our aim is to make our own work redundant. We provide integrated aid: from rapid disaster relief to long-term development cooperation projects. With 385 international projects in 2014, we were able to support people in 41 countries.
How we work
Our fundamental principle is help for self-help; together with local partner organisations, we strengthen structures from the bottom up and ensure success of the project work in the long-term. In addition, we inform the public and take an advisory role in politics – nationally and internationally. This is how we fight to change the conditions that lead to hunger and poverty.
A world in which all people can exercise their right to a self-determined life in dignity and justice, free of hunger and poverty.
